Idaho Clergy Sexual Abuse Lawyer
Idaho Attorneys Investigating Sexual Assault Claims Against Roman Catholic Church Archdioceses & Priests
Of the millions of sexual abuse survivors in the United States, tens of thousands of them were molested by religious leaders who used their position of authority to victimize innocent adults and children. For decades, church officials have covered up documented evidence of known predator priests who sexually abused others.
As a result, their victims have dealt with the deception and carried the shame while being manipulated into silence. Most of their abuse survivors have been rejected, ignored, or re-victimized by those in charge of keeping them safe.
It is often challenging for a victim who survived sexual abuse to come forward after years of suffering quietly. If you were sexually assaulted or have a loved one victimized through abuse, the compassionate network of affiliate attorneys at Rosenfeld Injury Lawyers, LLC, can help.
Our caring team of lawyers can protect your rights and help you speak openly about what happened. Our clergy sexual injury attorneys are here to listen to your story.
Let our comprehensive knowledge of Idaho tort law build a successful case to ensure the sexual perpetrator who caused your injuries faces the consequences.
Clergy Sexual Assault – The Problem Remains
In 2018, the United States Roman Catholic Jesuits released a list naming over 150 priests and other religious leaders with credible allegations of sexual assault made against them beginning in the 1950s. Twenty-two of the priests on that list have served at an Idaho parish, and most of them are now deceased.
For others, Catholic officials have dismissed the religious leaders from ministry or forced the priests into retirement.
The Devastating Effects of Sexual Assault
Sexual assaulting anyone can cause lifelong devastation that negatively alters the victim’s well-being. Children and adults who have been sexually assaulted can suffer from significant sleeping disorders, ongoing depression, substance abuse, self-injury, and suicide, including suicidal ideation (thinking about suicide).
Young children and teenage victims might develop negative eating habits, begin living an over-sexualized lifestyle, or engage in any form of risky behavior.
Holding the Abuser Accountable
In 2011, the Northwest Jesuits settled a massive case in Portland, Oregon, that involved Idaho priests. The Roman Catholic Church in Idaho agreed to the negotiated settlement of $166 million to resolve cases involving victims of sexual abuse committed by Parish priests and other religious leaders.
The documents reveal that many of the sexual abuse survivors are Native American. One of the plaintiffs stated that the Jesuit Order relocated “problem” priests to native villages and reservations beginning in the 1950s.
